A new skyscraper designed by Chicago firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture looks set to take the title of the world's tallest building when it is built in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Currently in the design and development stage, Kingdom Tower is designed to stand at an unprecedented 1,000m high - towering over the world's tallest existing building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, by some 72m. The Jeddah tower, which will cost an estimated $ 1.2bn to build, will form the centrepiece of a new 526ha development called Kingdom City and will contain a branch of the Four Seasons hotel, apartments and office space. Construction of the super-skyscraper begins this year.
