HKS Architects has been appointed lead designer for the new Silverstone University Technical College (UTC) at the Silverstone International Motor Racing circuit. The UTC building will sit within a dedicated landscaped trackside site to the north of the National Pit Straight and will be one of the first developments to be realised from the approved Silverstone Circuit Masterplan. Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto is to design the Serpentine Gallery's 13th Summer Pavilion - a semi-transparent cloud-like structure of steel poles. Each year the London gallery commissions a different architect to design a temporary structure for its lawn in Kensington Gardens. The project is partly funded by the sale of the structure at the end of the summer. EU Timber Legislation comes into effect this month, banning illegally harvested timber and timber products from entering the European Union. All EU member states will be required to enforce it, and the legislation stipulates that traders must keep track of where they source timber or timber products from.
