摘要

Technical Insights' analysts have identified three areas of biotechnology with potential to substantially influence industry and the way we live. The development of biosensors has taken on greater intensity in the past couple of years of heightened security, and engineers and scientists around the world are scrambling to innovate to meet intense demands. Security is also an issue with innovation in the biofuels sector. Driving the market for biofuels is the need for security of energy supply and the accepted need to reduce greenhouse gases as all serious studies indicate that global warming does exist. While drug delivery was previously only a minor concern for pharmaceutical companies, it is now receiving considerable attention. Not only can improved delivery convey particular drugs more effectively or conveniently, it can also improve patient compliance, and extend the life cycle of these products as they lose their patent protection that can result in a loss of market share worth millions of dollars to competitors.
