Since its establishment as a software design style, Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) have taken the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) world by storm. The "Lego pieces" logic, popularised through Cloud Computing, is now considered the standard approach for practically every application framework. The keyword to its success has been adaptivity since SOA are implemented through a wide range of technologies, tools and combinations. However SOAs struggle to handle massive data and multistage workflows which are coupled with performance and temporal requirements. The challenge is justified because SOAs are simply not meant to deal with rivers of data been transferred across the wire and nodes for processing. The conventional strategy of back-hauling all data to the cloud for processing is failing. And unfortunately this is a common problem nowadays: Internet-of-Things (IoT) and big-data applications are merely two general application categories that come with exactly those characteristics and -more often than not- with the said temporal requirements.
