An off center ignition model related to the fast ignition concept has been studied using a two-dimensional hydrodynamic code, while taking into account the alpha particle heating effect. Pulse width and energy required for ignition for a compressed core with 200 g/cm~3 density and 0.5 g/cm~2 areal density have been evaluated for the case of constant heating. It is found that less than ll ps pulse width and ~ 17 kJ energy injected into the spark region are required for igniting the core. From the simulations carried out to study the heating rate effect on the ignition conditions, it is found that the ignition conditions are highly dependent on the heating rate of the external pulse.
