Can a successful manufacturer lose sight of its customers? Apparently so, as the case of Banner Engineering Corp. bears out. The Minneapolis-based manufacturer makes precision sensors and photoelectric products that allow manufacturers, amusement park operators, and others to automate and secure their operations. But Banner's expertise in the development of these nearsighted devices didn't translate into the ability to take a long look down its own demand chain.
