After all, over the last two decades, we've seen companies invest tremendous capital in their supply chains. Bil-lions have gone into en-terprise resource planning and warehouse management systems alone—all in the name of improved productivity and just-in-time manufacturing. To a large degree, these investments worked. Productivity improved; companies became leaner; share prices went up. But hundreds of billions in savings are still waiting to be liberated. The barriers? Manual financial processes and the inefficient use of working capital.
