International Standardisation activities for the definition of third Generation mobile radio systems

Market expectations for third generation mobile radio systems (IMT-2000 / UMTS) show an increasing demand for a wide range of services from voice; low, high and advanced data rate services to support mobile multimedia. This leads to technical requirements on these systems, which are currently being standardised world-wide. Circuit- switched and packet oriented services will be supported. These systems will be operated in all radio environments.
