摘要

For reasons of energy economy an AVM module may be in a state of near-zero power consumption or dormancy. A dormant AVM does not possess any information a priori on the location and orientation of other modules in the network. Its wake up antenna consequently must have a fairly omnidirectional radiation pattern. On the other hand the communication between active modules should preferably be highly directional to minimize or avoid interference with other signals as well as to ensure a parsimonious use of energy. This is particularly attractive in a self-sufficient network wherein each module can establish the location of other modules and in so doing determine the direction to steer its radiation. Part Ⅰ of the paper deals principally with antenna concepts for the wake up. Part Ⅱ tackles a design approach for directed radiation.
