Design of a 850/900/1800/1900 MHz Quadruple-Band PIFA

After a brief overview concerning the fundamentals of small antennas the details of the development of a quadruple-band antenna for the GSM-frequency-bands are outlined. Bandwidth considerations in conjunction with the achievable return-loss are discussed. The shape of a broadband PIFA structure is presented and the design steps regarding simulation and measurement are described. Radiation efficiency measurements with a Wheeler-Cap measurement setup confirm the good performance of the quadruple-band antenna.
