Animal experiments are of key importance for the question whether radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) may cause adverse biological effects. During the past years, exposure conditions have become much more reliable when compared to earlier settings. At present, there are two main methods established by which animals (usually mice or rats) are exposed, i. e. by restraining or not restraining them during exposure. Both methods have advantages and disadvantages which are discussed in this paper.
