Empathie et esthésie: un retour aux origines esthétiques

摘要

This study proposes to look deeper into the aesthetic understanding of the term empathy, that designates the relation a subject can entertain with an object, a work of art and the surrounding world. This aesthetic conception is at the very origin of the word Einfuehlung or empathy, that first appeared in 1873 under the pen of Robert Vis-cher. With reference to the founding work of this theoretician, and also to a number of other studies from the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, we shall study the sensory nature of empathy. Juxtaposition of this concept with other notions such as synesthesia, aperception and fantasy will enable us to specify it further and to explore the conscious/unconscious dimension envisaged by these aes-theticians with regard to empathy.%Cette étude se propose d''approfondir l''acception esthétique du terme empathie , qui désigne la relation qu''un sujet peut entretenir avec un objet, une œuvre d''art, le monde environnant., Cette conception esthétique est, à l''origine même du mot, Einfuhlung ou empathie , apparue la première fois en 1873 sous la plume de Robert Vischer. Reprenant l''écrit fondateur de ce théoricien, ainsi que quelques autres réflexions de la fin du XIX~e siècle et du début du XX~e siècle, nous étudierons la nature sensorielle de l''empathie. Sa juxtaposition avec d''autres notions comme la synesthésie, l''aperception et la fantaisie permettra de déterminer sa spécificité et d''explorer la dimension consciente/inconsciente que ces esthéticiens envisageaient à l''égard de l''empathie.
