In 1997, youth was served at the Masters as 21-year-old Tiger Woods blitzed the field and Augusta National with a record-setting performance. He took no prisoners, essentially putting a full-nelson on the course with an 18-under-par winning total that was a suffocating 12 shots clear of his nearest pursuer. Last year produced another major breakthrough, this time by Woods' mentor and Florida neighbor Mark O'Meara, who firmly established himself as one of golf's elite players. Though the 41-year-old O'Meara insisted he was more than content with his resume, with or without one of the big four, the dramatic last-hole victory elevated his standing among followers of the game.
