MASSIVE, PARALLEL SUPERCOMPUTERS: HOW THEY'LL WORK

When I first visited the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory as a freshman in 1974, the field of artifical intelligence was in a state of explosive growth. The first programs that could follow simple instructions written in plain English were being developed, and a computer that understood human speech seemed just around the corner. Computers were even passing calculus exams and solving simple analogy problems taken from IQ tests. Could general-purpose machine intelligence be far off?
