This dazzling new collection from Sicis, the Italian maes-tros of mosaic, puts a contemporary twist (quite literally) on a millennia-old art.The handmade tesserae (tiles) are affixed to a flexible fiberglass backing, so the rugs can be hung like tapestries and curved into flying-carpet-like sculptures, as well as simply being laid on the bathroom floor. But Sicis' real achievement lies in combining innovation with impeccable craftsmanship and luxe materials: 24-karat white and yellow gold, silver, natural stone, and Murano glass. That's been the case since the company was founded in 1987 in Ravenna, a historic center of the mosaic world, and set about starting a renaissance.
