The UK food manufacturing industry is facing tough times. Stretched margins, greater focus on food safety, legislation, new RFID standards and difficult economic conditions are all taking their toll. To make matters worse, there is little sign of the situation improving. In order to increase profitability in highly competitive markets, cutting costs is a key objective for food manufacturers, a difficult goal given the other pressures they face.
