Suppliers of high value fresh and frozen meat products can reduce giveaway without increasing pack times and labour demands thanks to a range of integrated weigh and pack options from Automated Packaging Systems. Food specialist Malcolm Vale explains: "Hitting target pack weights sounds simple, and for those packing products such as minced meats, where fine-tuning is easy, there are a number of efficient packing options to choose from. "Packing accurately by weight is straight forward for processed foods too. Burgers are a good example, where manufacturing a uniform product eliminates giveaway and delivers a multi-pack that's spot on its target weight. But if you're marketing a natural product - a freezer pack of 8 lamb chops, for example -hitting the target weight manually is difficult and time-consuming, even for the most experienced eye, and the relatively high cost of the food product itself means product lost to giveaway quickly eats into profits."
