Sixty shellfish samples (mussel [Mtilus edulis], queen scallops [Chlamys operculris] and king scallops [Pecten maximus]), collected during routine surveil- ance for paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) toxins conducted by the UK Ministry of Agiculture, Fisheries and Food and the Scottish Office Agriculture, Environ- mental and Fisheries Department, were analysed for contamination with PSP toxins by mouse bioassay (MBA), and by a competitive direct enzyme immuno- assay (Ridascreen Saxitoxin ELISA).
