Lightning group's moving tribute

A special open day was held at Bruntingthorpe by the Lightning Preservation Group to honour one of its former pilots, the late Brian Carroll. The event, which took place at the Leicestershire airfield on July 10, included an emotional ceremony to name EE Lightning F.6 XS904 after Lt Col Carroll, who sadly passed away in December 2004. Brian was a staunch supporter of all things Lightning, spending much of his free time helping with the preserved examples across the UK - fast-taxying aircraft at Bruntingthorpe, Cranfield and Binbrook. Massively experienced, he achieved 3,000 hours on type and close to a decade as a Certified Flight Instructor working with the Royal Saudi Air Force's F.53s and T.55s.
