Like many before and after me, all the 'Principles of Flight' theory caught after joining the Air Training Corps was first put to the test in a DHC Chipmunk T.10. My first Air Experience Flight was in WB692 on April 4, 1981, and I remember to this day how proud I felt at having flown in an aircraft with roundels and a military serial number! The Chipmunk was de Havilland's successor to its Tiger Moth biplane trainer. The new low-wing monoplane type was designed by de Havilland Canada at its Toronto works. The prototype carried out its maiden flight on May 22,1946. In all, 158 examples were built in Canada before production there ended in 1951.
