"Did make the right choice?" The same nagging thought returned to my head once more as I crossed the English Channel. I kept thinking to myself, "did I make the right choice?" I was CO of the 352nd Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group, flying the top-of-the-line Republic P-47 Thunderbolt on October 14, 1943. Beside me and behind me at 26,000ft (7,900m) was an additional 15 olive drab P-47s containing pilots whose lives I was responsible for. Three years earlier I had come to a fork in the road and had to choose my life's path. 1 had been selected to attend Harvard Business College but I had also been offered a 'different sort' of education.
