A group of senior executives within Cathay Pacific Airways were discussing how to mark the forthcoming 60th anniversary. During the first few days of September 2005 the idea was born to obtain a Douglas DC-3 to celebrate not only the Hong Kong airline's last 60 years but also its Airline of the Year 2005 award and the forthcoming Boeing 777-300ER order. Cathay's original DC-3 VR-HDB Betsy is on display in the Hong Kong Science Museum. (See the panel for more on Betsy) She is kept under the watchful eye of Chee Kuen Yip, Chief Curator and Chi Kin Wong, Senior Technical Officer. Removing Betsy was looked into but quickly dismissed for various reasons.
