Bomber command increased the number and tempo of attacks against pre-invasion targets increased during May. At Little Staughton in Huntingdonshire, the Avro Lancaster III-eguipped Pathfinder unit, 582 Squadron increased its sortie tally to 173 against 13 targets. Alas, there were more losses and more letters to be written to next-of-kin. On May 3, while the infamous Mailly le Camp raid was taking place, some 84 Pathfinders were attacking the Luftwaffe airfield at Montdidier. Four were shot down including JA968 '60-0' and ND910 '60-F' from 582. Only one airman survived from F-for-Freddie to become an evader, while there were no survivors from the other aircraft.
