Orange warriors

Like many countries making their first steps in military aviation, aircraft of the Netherlands' Luchtvaart Afdeling (LVA - Army Aviation Group) carried no national insignia. However, the authorities reacted very quickly to the outbreak of World War One on August 15,1914 by introducing an orange roundel on the upper and lower surfaces of the wings.Aircraft of the combatant powers frequently force-landed in the Netherlands and those incorporated into the LVA had an additional orange roundel applied to the fuselage sides, or in the case of a Royal Aircraft Factory BE.2c, on the rudder.
