Snitfire Detectives

Problem: the Spitfire IX being restored by Historic Flying Ltd at its Duxford, Cambridgeshire, workshop. Like all Mk.IXs, it was originally built for the RAF, but its serial number had long been lost in the mists of time. Tracking down this identity would not just be a challenging academic exercise; setting the provenance of the airframe into its context would be of great importance for its new owner. This task was to involve three aviation researchers in Czechoslovakia, Israel and the UK.
