Towards the end of 1942 and the start of the new year there was not a little excitement with the installation of a strange series of pipes along the length of the runway. Unbeknownst to most of the crews at the time, this was a FIDO - Fog Investigation and Dispersal Operation - installation, a fog-dispersal experiment that would help bombers land even in the most extreme weather conditions.
