RAF Wattisham - A Pictorial History, Dave Eade, Ad Hoc Publications, 96pp, illus, sbk, ￡18.95 - Now home to an Army Air Corps Air Mobile Brigade, this hallowed Suffolk base has had an incredible history, from Bristol Blenheims to Westland-built Apache gunships. After valiant RAF 'ship-busting' usage, Wattisham became USAAF Station 377 and home to Lockheed P-38 Lightnings and then NA P-51 Mustangs. Post-war, it was a very active jet station and home to the Hawker Hunters of the fantastic 'Black Arrows' aerobatic team. Beyond that, EE Lightnings and McD Phantoms provided Wattisham's fighter finale. Ad Hoc is well-regarded for high production values, excellent design and carefully researched narrative. This is gorgeous mixture of artwork, archive photography and first-hand memories of a much-loved airfield.
