First airshow tribute

Volunteers at the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum unveiled their 1909 Bleriot XI replica at the team's Doncaster Aeroventure home in Yorkshire on November 14. Constructed by Ken Fern, renowned builder of wooden aircraft, the Bleriot helps the museum celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first airshow in Britain, which was held at the nearby Doncaster Race Course in October rn1909. (Also see A Full Programme in the October 2009 issue.)rnThe machine is a faithful reproduction of DeLagrange's aircraft and includes an authentic Gnome rotary engine. The new exhibit was unveiled by Doncaster's Civic Mayor, Madam Councillor Ros Jones, along with museum members dressed in 1909 costumes.
