Unexpected encore for 'Highway Dakota'

Two Douglas DC-3s (one a C-47B Skytrain) are now participating in the Dutch musical Soldier of Orange at the former Valkenburg Naval Air Station, near Leiden. The musical made news when the Dutch Wings of Liberation Museum's Skytrain, 44-76787, was almost destroyed in a freak accident while being transported to Valkenburg and was replaced by Aviodrome's Dakota, 44-76634 (see News, October and November). Although the first aircraft was severely damaged, it will nevertheless be positioned in front of the hangar being used as a theatre - partly because the story of the 'Highway Dakota' has proved popular in the media and caught the public's imaqination.
