The article on the bombing of Grantham [September issue] brought back memories. It was the raid that took place on February 4,1941 which caused us to vacate our house and go to live in the country. At the time, I was a ten-year-old boy living at 23 East Avenue, just off Dysart Road.rnI remember it being dark when the siren went and my mother got me out of bed, ready to go to a shelter at the bottom of the garden. Very shortly after, another warning indicated that German aircraft were in the vicinity.
