Italian pioneer celebrates centenary

A replica of a 1910 Caproni Ca.1 biplane was taxied at Malpensa airport, in Milan, Italy on May 27. The event took place on the date and at the location where, exactly 100 years ago, the original Ca.1 made its first short flight.rnDeveloped from a glider that successfully flew in 1908, the Ca.1 was designed and built by Gianni Caproni with the help of three carpenters and , his brother, Frederico. It was powered by an inadequate 25hp (18.65kW) engine, which was all that Italian industry could supply at the time.
