After a dire winter, the UK show season got an early shot-in-the-arm thanks to the incredible Gathering of Legends and Warbirds held at North Weald, Essex, on April 25. (Turn to Breaking the Mould on page 110 for a report of this event.) We've featured it several times recently, but an undoubted 'star' of the occasion was Historic Flying's Hispano Buchon.rnSetting aside the skilled work carried out to bring this 1949-built Rolls-Royce Merlin 500-powered Messerschmitt Bf 109 back to the skies, the fighter's colour scheme has also been meticulously researched, paint-matched and applied. Uniform-Echo's colours take it back to 1968 when it took part in the filming of Battle of Britain, co-incidentally partiallyrnshot at its current base, Duxford. So, unlike many warbirds, this machine flies in totally authentic markings.
