North American P-51D Mustang Big Beautiful Doll D-FBBD was sadly lost in an accident at Duxford, Cambs, at the end of the Flying Legends airshow on July 10 - thankfully nobody was injured. The Mustang, which was recently registered to the Air Fighter Academy of Rangsdorf, near Berlin - having been based in the UK as G-HAEC for many years - was involved in an air-to-air collision with Douglas AD-4NA Skyraider F-AZDP. Pilot Rob Davies, who owned the P-51D during the time it was based at Woodchurch, Kent, successfully baled out moments after the two struck, while the French Skyraider made a safe landing despite missing the outer part of its starboard wing. The Air Accident Investigation Branch is currently examining the incident.
