Sweden's Hall of Remembrance

The Swedish Air Force's Hall of Remembrance is, unlike many similar memorials, dedicated to honouring all military aviators lost in flying accidents. It is located in Stockholm, on the lower floor of the former air staff building. Around a thousand names have been engraved onto its marble wall. The stylishly decorated and furnished hall features artwork by Professor Einar Forseth depicting an ill-fated pilot's life from school to flying the SAAB B-17 to a funeral with full military honours. The latest names to be added are those of the crew that manned a Swedish Douglas C-47 that was discovered in the Baltic in 2003. It had disappeared in 1952 after being attacked by a Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15. The wall of a former waiting room now bears the names of the crew on a piece of black stone, above which is hung a painting of the C-47 by British artist Roger Middlebrook.
