Hawker chief designer, Sydney Camm, tackled the jet age in the same way he approached most tasks. He was not a flamboyant risk-taker opting for radical solutions; his way was through evolution, perfecting each advance to the next type. In June 1928, the first Hawker Hart flew and it led to the largest and most produced family of military biplanes of the era. His piston mono-wing fighter dynasty: the Hurricane, Typhoon, Tempest and Sea Fury, extended the boundaries of design and aerodynamics, not in massive leaps, but by careful, measured steps.
