Call of The Nimrod

Around 2,000 people converged on Elvington on April 13 last year to witness the arrival by air of HS Nimrod MR.2 XV250 from Kinloss, Scotland. The aircraft, being retired from RAF service, was making its final flight and landing. On its way, it overflew RAF bases at Church Fenton and Linton-on-Ouse. It is now a permanent exhibit at YAM. Adding to the excitement is the fact that while it is highly unlikely to ever fly again, staff are maintaining it in full ground running condition, and regularly 'exercise' its four Rolls-Royce Spey turbofans - a dramatic sight and sound for anyone lucky enough to be visiting on the day.
