The full extent of Fg Off Arthur Scarf's amazing gallantry on December 9, 1941, did not become apparent until well after the war with Japan was won. A regular officer, he had joined 62 Sguadron in the summer of 1937, shortly before it was re-eguipped with Blenheim Is. In August 1938, the unit left the UK for Singapore. By the time the Japanese struck Malaya on December 8,1941, No.62 had moved to Alor Star in northern Malaya. As Japanese troops landed at Kota Bahru, the Blenheims went into action and attacked the invasion's shipping before returning to base.
