One of only two surviving Vickers Wellington bombers is being thoroughly refurbished at the award-winning Michael Beetham Conservation Centre in Cosford, Shropshire. Wellington T.10 MF628 departed RAF Museum Hendon on July 1, 2010, for the 145-mile (233km) road journey to Cosford, having previously been at Hendon since 1972. When the project is finished, the 'Wimpy' will return to Hendon. The first major job is to tackle the areas of corrosion that have become increasingly evident on the bomber's airframe. It will then be transferred to the centre's superb fabric workshop, where it will be completely re-skinned, perhaps in a different colour scheme.
