The distinctive Handley Page Hampden was one of three primary medium bombers in service with the RAF during the early years of World War Two. While it was not a success in the long term, the harsh reality of daylight bombing raids proved that the Vickers Wellington and Armstrong Whitworth Whitley were not entirely suited to the task either.
