Albatros replica flies in Germany

A reproduction of a World War One Albatros D.lll Oeffag flew for the first time on April 10 at Schleissheim, near Munich, Germany. Produced by Koloman Mayrhofer and Eberhard Fritsch, '253.24' is powered by an original, 1917-built six-cylinder Austro Daimler engine. Test pilot Roger Louis 'Tex' Texier reported that he was so happy with the first flight that by the second flight he "felt so connected to the aircraft that I couldn't help but do some acrobatic manoeuvres."
