Cold War contenders

The third and final of the RAF's so-called V-bombers that provided Britain's nuclear deterrent during the 'Cold War', the Handley Page Victor is regarded by many as being the best of the three. Although the Vickers Valiant suffered from structural weakness, rendering it easily the least productive, the Avro Vulcan went on to achieve far greater fame than its Handley Page rival. In fact, the Victor had the longer service life of the two, operating successfully as a tanker after it had been relegated from the role of bomber.
