Douglas A-1E Skyraider 135188 has joining the Collings Foundation's collection of flying aircraft. Originally accepted by the US Navy from Douglas at El Segundo, California, on June 23,1955, it was assigned to VC-11 NAS North Island, California. During the next four years, the Skyraider served aboard the USS Wasp, Hornet and Shangri La before being placed in storage at Litchfield Park, Arizona on December 29,1959. It was reinstated into service in time for the Vietnam War, and assigned to VAW-33 serving aboard the Intrepid and Wasp. While on the Wasp, it was overhauled and modified.
