Following nine years of planning and fund raising the Air Force Museum of New Zealand has launched the first phase of a $14m (£7.3m) expansion to the existing facilities at Wigram. The extension is necessary to better preserve and display aircraft and large artefacts currently in storage, and to provide space for aircraft expected to be added in future. A new aircraft display gallery is the first stage of the larger project which will eventually include an adjoining restoration facility.
