In Hugh Trevor's excellent article Building Perfection about the production of the EE Lightning in the July issue, there was a brief mention that "Johnny Squire ejected when the fin came off over the Irish Sea" -I feel that a little more detail about his escape may be of interest. I first met Johnny when I was the Martin-Baker escape system programme manager on the MRCA (later to become the Tornado). He was still in the flight test department at Warton with a special responsibility for future escape systems - having had first-hand experience, he was the right man for the job!
