Arming an Hbomb

The B-47 could easily carry a 19-megaton Mk.36,17,500lb (7,938kg) hydrogen bomb. It was not the only nuclear weapon carried by a Stratojet, but physically it was the largest and heaviest - filling the bomb bay. The proper procedure for arming one was required in the training regime, especially for navigators as they would arm the weapon in flight. Installing the core in a Mk.36 was accomplished manually, rather than by a flip of a switch in the cockpit.
