When Australia's Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) obtained a licence to build its own version of America's immensely successful North American F-86 Sabre, it resulted in 112 airframes being constructed for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Introduced in 1954, the CAC Sabre - sometimes know as the Avon Sabre or CA-27 - served with the RAAF until 1971, with some also flying with the Royal Malaysian and Indonesian air forces. The latter was the last to retire its Sabres, in 1982.
