PR.9 Navigator. Peter Thompson

Peter trained as a navigator on Ansons and Wellingtons, before flying in Mosquitos and Lincolns operationally. He converted to PR Canberras in 1958 and became an instructor in 1966 on Dominies and Varsities at 1 Air Navigation School. Then Peter moved to transports, flying in Belfasts (1969-1975) describing them as "pure magic". A tour in Guam with the USAF followed, and he returned to the RAF in 1978 to fly VC-IOs for six years. His last flying tour was at the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough with the Devon, Dakota and Comet. Peter retired from the RAF in 1985 after 34 years and 10,000 hours as a navigator.
