摘要

Tony Agar and his superbly restored de Havilland Mosquito were recently visited by a most distinguished guest - World War Two aircrew veteran Douglas Forrester-Paton. During his time in the RAF Mr Forrester-Paton served as a navigator in Beaufighters and Mosquito night-fighters, being shot down over Germany in February 1945. During the visit to see Tony's Mosquito NF.II HJ711 at the Yorkshire Air Museum, Douglas told of his final sortie. "On the night of February 10-11,1945, flying at about 20,000 feet we closed on a twin-engined plane. Satisfied that it was not another Mosquito, Johann [pilot Jakobus 'Johann' Strauss] opened fire. I saw our cannon shells striking the target; then it opened fire on us. My radar went blank and I heard bullets striking the armour plate in front of the cockpit. Johann closed and fired again and the other plane turned sharply and disappeared below us - it was on fire.
