New paint for Italian Starfighter

Aeritalia-produced Lockheed F-104S-ASA Starfighter MM6804, displayed as a 'gate guardian' at Istrana air force base, near Treviso, Italy, has recently received a new coat of paint to help protect it against the elements. The jet ended its flying 'career' in June 1998, operating as '51-07' with the 22° Gruppo, a fighter-interceptor unit. Mounted on a support, it was unveiled outside the base's main gate on November 3,1999, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the 51° Stormo (Wing).
