New arrivals at Moscow museums

The Russian Air Force Museum and the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War, both in Moscow, have undergone some changes in recent months. The former is on the site of Monino, a now defunct air force academy. Many of the aircraft previously based at the academy have now been transferred to the museum including Tupolev Tu-95 Bear (codenamed 'Red 31'), Tu-22M3 Backfire ('Red 33'), Sukhoi Su-22 Fitter ('Blue 05'), Su-24 Fencer ('Blue 09'), Su-27 Flanker ('Blue 29'), and five Mikoyan MiG-29 Fulcrums. Its latest acquisitions are the prototype Yakovlev Yak-130 (43130) recently received from the Yak Design Bureau testing facility at Zhukovsky, and the prototype Su-35 (701). Many of the aircraft have been resprayed over the past 18 months, some into different colour schemes, done partly to protect those on external display from the harsh Russian winter.
